From Intention to Action - Practical Help.
I write about the benefits of planning for lower screen time quite a bit. The MindUnwired Community (sign up, free forever, at piilo.co) see it all! Here's some practical help that might just help you live more in the real world, and less online, week-on-week.
Week 1: Put your phone out of sight, preferably in another room. Target 10 minutes each day for the first week. A short daily ritual, so it's easy to stick with. This will help reduce screen time because with your phone out of the way, there's no visual cue to use it.
Week 2: Aim for 1 hour each day, as above, without your phone. If you slip up, just start again.
Week 3: Push to at least one 3 hour session each week. Keep going if setbacks happen. Your brain is already rewiring.
Week 4: Reach 3 hours daily. And then one long day, maybe 12 hours without your phone.
Tips that helped me:
Do this with a friend for double accountability.
Use visual cues to stay on track. Like a notes on your fridge door adding up the screen-free hours you accrue!
Write down what you do, think or process during your phoneless time. Making these changes visible will fuel more wins.
Customize a plan as you like. This is about lasting change, not a sprint. Small deeds strengthen neural pathways, freeing your mind and boosting clarity.
Good luck!
Sari.
